Last weekend I threw a Taste of DC dinner party for some friends and neighbors. It was a great way to discover fun restaurants around the city, introduce new friends and old friends, and throw in some fun competition. The best part is that you could easily recreate this wherever you live. Read below for all the details.
Here’s how it works- we invited everyone to a Taste of DC dinner party and dessert contest. We provided dinner and the ‘buy in’ for the event was to bring your favorite dessert from a local restaurant/bakery. We ordered dinner from different famous restaurants around DC (think Ben’s Chili Bowl and District of Pi). After dinner everyone got to sample different desserts and vote for their favorite. Winners received gift cards to local restaurants, and everyone left with local favorites to try.
We added blue letters to pre-made red and white banners from Target (just one more reason why I love Target). Since it’s still warm in DC in September, we were able to have everyone outside. We hung patio lights which were great when it started getting dark. Simple white tablecloths with red and blue streamers added some color and kept with the DC theme. The centerpieces were made by stamping the DC flag onto linen, and tying around mason jars that had candles in them. Dinner was served on paper plates, and silverware was wrapped in napkins and secured with washi tape.
Happy Planning,
