I started working at IJM in the fall right before Halloween, and was delighted to learn that the daycare in the building hosted a yearly Halloween parade, bringing all of the children on a visit around the offices in the building while wearing adorable costumes. We would hand out candy and swoon over the tiny farm animals, superheroes and princesses that were toddling in a row down the hallway. This became even more fun when my daughter started attending the daycare and I got to go with her. When she was just over a year I dressed her up like a little duck (our nickname for her) and my husband and I donned duck beaks.
Last year she asked to dress up like Abby Cadabby for Halloween. I found some Abby Cadabby costumes on Amazon but they all looked a little…cheap 🙂 I figured I could put something together that would be much better quality for around the same price.
I discovered Primary when making her little duck costume, and their solid color onesies and separates are perfect for costumes. I also love that she can wear them separately afterwards. I purchased the long sleeve pj top and pj pant in raspberry, and the sleeveless dress in the color pool to match Abby’s dress color.
I added a teal tutu, pink fairy wings and pink sparkly shoes which she already owned. I originally purchased this hat but it was still warm outside so I made her headband with pom poms from pink and purple yarn.
My sweet husband agreed to dress up as Elmo so I made him a simple hat using googly eyes and a felt nose, and I wore a blue sweater and made a cookie monster headband.
Her Abby costume was a huge success, and she has been wearing her “Abby pajamas” for the past year. She is currently deciding between dressing up as a monster or Mickey Mouse this year. I have a few family costume ideas for both of these- stay tuned!
Happy Planning,

Love her Abby costume! I’m currently making one for my almost-3 year old. I was wondering how did you make her wand? Thank you!
